Trinity
College Washington’s Room was on fire on Thursday night. Not literally, because
that wouldn't be something to brag about, but figuratively. The 3rd
Annual International Culture Show brought together students who danced, recited
poetry, sang and otherwise showed off their talents while representing their
countries. It was an event full of energy and one that definitely highlighted
the international student body on campus. It’s an event that we will all
remember for a long time! I was
invited to recite a poem in Swahili, which at first posed a challenge since I
had to memorize it. In high school, I recited poetry but it was English and I
had plenty of time to prepare. Using the tricks I had learned, I was able to learn
the Swahili poem in time and perform it during the poetry section. There was a student
who sang in Arabic; another who recited a poem in Albanian, another in Turkish
and the last one recited his in Urdu. There was dancing representing different
parts of the world from Bollywood dancing, Belly dancing, dancing to Korean pop
music and the Latin Dance Club. Shondaa Steppers opened up the show with lots
of energy. There was even a mini-fashion show featuring clothing and dress from
parts of Africa. Overall, there were fourteen different acts and each one
brought something new and exciting to the show.
Sometimes
you go to events and you wonder why you went in the first place and other times
you go and get something meaningful out of it. Attending the International
Cultural Show was a great decision because I couldn't be more proud of all the
hard work students put into the show to make it a success!
