This
past Sunday I attended the Ecumenical Service of Thanksgiving at Trinity
College Chapel and it was simply amazing! It was great to bring together all
the organizations under the Chapel Community umbrella. This included the Gospel
Choir, Banquet (a non-denominational student led worship group), the Chapel
Singers, F.I.S.T (Faith Inspired Students at Trinity), FCA (Fellowship of Christian
Athletes) and the other groups.
You
can imagine what happened when students who are Pentecostal, Lutheran, Episcopalian,
Methodist, Catholic, and Non-denominational, just to name a few tradition got
together. They combined their different traditions for a service that truly uplifted
God.
This
service brought me back to the Ecumenical Service in Boise that King of Glory
was a part of. My own sister was one of
the youngest reader’s and we were so proud of her. We even incorporated the
Quaker tradition with time for silence. It was the way to lead into the day of Thanksgiving!
The
sermon for the service was very relevant. It urged us to spend time praising
God for the ways that we’re blessed during this holiday season instead of
worrying so much.
What
are a few things that I am thankful for during this holiday season?
1.
My
family. I miss them so much and I am sad that I can’t see them during
Thanksgiving break but it won’t be long before we are reunited
2.
School.
No matter how little sleep I get or how many papers I have to write, I can’t
complain that I have been given this opportunity
3.
Freedom.
The fact that I can walk down the street and feel safe. The fact that I can say
what I want (within reason) without being silenced.
4.
For
the experiences that have made me a better person.
5.
Travel.
So what I haven’t seen the world? I may be from Idaho but I sure know that the
United States doesn’t end after Chicago
I wish
everyone a happy thanksgiving!
For your own pleasure, check out this song that was sung by the Gospel Choir at the service:
