The friends you make in Newspaper will likely stay your friends forever. This weekend, I met up with my old friends, Annika, who is at Wellesley and Dixon, who is at Tufts. I was so excited to meet up with people who understand my jokes about Idaho and the place I call home.
This weekend is Trinity Days. I watched other students go home and realized that I wouldn’t be one of them. Friday night, we as in group of friends got together and watched she’s the man, which is an awesome movie. After this, we played mind games and Ninja. This was all fun and enjoyable until I realized that it was almost one in the morning and that I had bought a bus ticket for 6: 45 am.
I didn’t get to bed until 2 am and woke up at 6:49, which was too bad because my bus had left. I quickly bought another ticket for 9:15 am. I showered, printed off my ticket but then my printer wasn’t working. I woke up a friend of mine to help me and I felt so bad. I then left that ticket in his room so that was too bad. While going outside to catch the city bus, I realized that I had forgotten my id card. I called my friend again to let me into the building, forgot to ask him for my ticket and missed the city bus. My id card had been in my backpack, which I was carrying. I called a taxi and it said it would be here at 8:45 am. I finally got my ticket and went to go wait for the cab. The cab never came until 9:18. I missed my second bus.
By this point, I felt like crying. All I wanted was to get to Boston and visit with my friends. After learning that I could use my ticket all day without penalty, I got on the city bus with an hour to spare. I did get to Boston, safe and sound. It was so awesome to see Dixon and Annika waiting for me! We had talked about our adventures but it was another thing to put them into play.
Touring Boston was fun. I had never seen such a huge city. I also enjoyed being on the subway and train for the first time. It was too bad that I actually didn’t see Ryan Reynolds because they blocked off some streets to film for his new movie, R.I.P.D. Boston and Wellesley were such nice schools and I could see that my friends were happy. Even as great as these schools were, I kept being reminded of how much I love Trinity and wouldn’t transfer anywhere else.
Annika and I enjoyed catching up on old times, talking about Idaho and just being college kids, who knew each other in junior high and high school. It was so nice to be with other people who understand Idaho. That’s what Annika and I talked much about. We realized that we are happy in our new homes and that these adventures we’re having are an awesome part of college. At the same time, we miss Boise, ID, our friends, our family and the city that we know where everything is. Big cities have their advantage but I wouldn’t trade my life in Boise for one in Boston or New York City.
Right now, I am sitting in my dorm at Trinity. I have quickly fallen back into my routine at Trinity and am glad to see all my new friends. What I learned this weekend was that home is what you define it as. Home for me is in Boise, ID because that’s where I grew up. Home is also Trinity College because I have begun making new memories here with the great friends I have found. Home is also hanging out with people like Annika and Dixon, because they know of the home that I speak of.
