Midnight Adventures in the City of Hartford
Friday night around here is generally a night for people to go out but it's usually calmer than the other days because athletes have games on Saturday. I got off of work and hung out with a couple friends before we headed to the Asian American Student Association. After eating delicious food and playing table tennis, which I am not good at, I got a phone call from Guarav, a sophomore international student from India. He asked us if we wanted to go to blue back square. At first, I was kind of hesitant because there was a choir concert going on and a painting to the music deal and I didn’t know where this place was. After a good argument, I ran to convey to my friends what we were up to for the night. We walked to downtown Hartford, which is not a ten minute walk; instead it’s like 30 minutes. Anyway, we were telling jokes and trying to figure out how to cross streets without jaywalking. We arrived downtown to be greeted by a guy who wanted us to donate money to him. If it hadn’t been for the wiser sophomores, I probably would have donated money since I am so used to Boise, where strangers help you if they see something amiss. After waiting like 30 minutes for the bus to arrive, we learned about downtown Hartford like its bridges, its buildings and the river. I also saw the statue of Lincoln meeting with Harriet Beecher Stowe. We did get on the bus, got to the cheesecake factory and got some goodies. The white chocolate macadamia nuts cheesecake was quite awesome. It was during this time that we noticed how similar the landscape of this place was to Paris, it even had a fountain, where we all made wishes. We walked around, went to go get on the bus, waited there for like 2o minutes and heard crazy stories about people’s freshman year. We got on the bus, ended up downtown, ended on another bus and it wasn’t long before we ran into a drunk/stoned guy. It was so funny listening to him trying to guess where we were all from. He left and we continued our journey back to Trinity. We got back around 1:00 am. It’s amazing to have buses that run like all night and day. I remember the first time I heard this and couldn’t believe. I don’t know if I can go back to Boise and have buses that stop by 7 pm. Our adventures continued on campus until 3 am, when I finally rested my poor tired head. Friday night last week was great! The message here sometimes seems to be that if you don’t drink or go to frat parties, you can’t have fun. The reality though is that there are alternatives to drinking and frat parties and these are so much more fun than the puking and hangover the next day. Thank you God for sending Guarav and other upperclassman, who have made my college experience a great one so far.

Glad to hear that you also have found good friends there. We found that when we were in Vancouver 2 weeks ago that the transportation there was great and we were within walking distance to a lot of the things we wanted to do and see. Are the colors starting to change on the trees, yet? The tree colors in the fall are really pretty!! Take care!! God Bless!
ReplyDeleteSome of the trees have started changing colors but not many of them. I will post pictures when they begin to do so
