The Older I Get the More People I Miss

One of the greatest things in the world would be for me to have all my high school friends, college friends and my family all in one community. Then, my life would be golden! Now you are probably thinking: Salima, you could have had that if you had stayed in Boise and hadn’t been driven to go across the country. You are right! I could have had everything I needed in one place. But, what’s the fun of not taking chances when they are handed to you?

Like I have said, I am not miserable. In fact, I am enjoying college and taking advantage of this opportunity that I was given. All I am doing is reflecting. Reflecting on the fact that maybe I didn’t need to go all the way across the country to learn what I have and to have this awesome experience.

I do know that I made the right choice in taking that step to go to Trinity because it’s working for me. Trinity has allowed me to expand my wings and see where I fit in in terms of my place in this world. It has given me the opportunities to use the skills that I learned back home. It reminds me of the blessed childhood that I had and the awesome community that I got to grow up in.

This piece is advice for all those who have college decisions to make. Please, think long and hard about your college process. Going far away from your family may seem like the thing to do and it does work for people but just think hard about it. Remember to think too about what you are going to do for the breaks when everyone else goes home. It’s those times that you can get lonely. For me, I have found another loving community and it only makes my world better. It also reminds me of the quote that says something like the older I get the more people I miss.
