I apologize once again for not having written anything for the past two weeks. This entry will be brief and to the point. A highlight from my life this week was rereading the play, A Raisin in the Sun. I have loved this play ever since we read in Ms. W’s class. It speaks to many issues that African-Americans faced then and now. There is the grandmother, who doesn’t understand what’s happening to her children. Walter is Ruth’s husband, and he is driven by the desire for money. All throughout the book, he was groining and moaning about his condition. Ruth is the hardworking wife who has to put up with Walter. Beneatha is Walter’s sister and she dreams of becoming a doctor. While on the plane flying to Atlanta, Georgia, I was entertained by these characters. I could see people in my life that would fit this story. I saw quotes that described the American Dream. I remembered the performances I had seen, the old one we watched in Mrs. W’s class and the new one with Sean Combs. This wasn’t just some play; it was a story that spoke to issues that I see facing the African-American population today.
