Celebrating My 18th Birthday

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great thanksgiving! My first thanksgiving at Trinity College was not bad at all. In fact, it was a great time and I am sad to be back, trying to get all the homework that I should have done during break. My 18th birthday was on Monday, November 21, 2011. The week before that I was in Georgia so I called that the pre-celebration. I attended the National Women’s Conference Association with the Women and Gender Resource Center on campus. It was very educational and relaxing at the same time. I learned so much about sexuality, feminism and women and gender studies. I had never been surrounded by so many females, who were the leaders in their field of studies. When we weren’t in the workshops or resting in our hotel rooms, we were eating good food. We had Mexican food, Chinese food, and all sort of other foods that made my visit. I also got the opportunity to visit Oakland Cemetery and the Cyclorama, which tells the story of the campaign of Atlanta during the civil war. The Cyclorama was so cool! You got in, watched a short clip of the events leading to the battle of Atlanta, and then went into a separate room where the cyclorama was located. The painting hung on the wall, and the thing on which we sat on rotated the audience as the painting was explained to us. I was pretty hooked and impressed by what I was seeing! I got back from Georgia and had a week of the normal college life before Saturday came around.
That Saturday, we organized for the group of our friends to go ice skating at the rink that Trinity College owns. Plus, it only cost us $3 to get in. Almost twenty of us showed up for an hour and a half of fun on the ice. Those of us who knew how to skate took it upon ourselves to teach the rest of our friends. Ice skating was a blast, I think! It was so great to see all my friends skating, teaching someone else how to skate, or learning to skate. It was an experience for all of us and we decided that we need to do more of it before winter is over.
Monday came around and I finally became an adult. Funny thing, I was up until 3 am working on an assignment that I hadn’t started until midnight! Oh the life of a college kid! I knew that this day was going to be a great day, just had a feeling. I went to book buddies and read with my buddy. I had breakfast at Mather hall for the first time in weeks. I didn’t have French class or a test because the class was cancelled. I worked hw that I hadn’t finished while playing my music loudly because it was my birthday. Lunch was awesome! I went to my seminar and learned that I had done well on my last test. I came back in my room to find that my roommates had decorated it with love. Work was fine and I got off early. Everything was going smoothly. I later learned that the Quest Scholars had gotten me a cake, which was so nice. I fattened myself on ice cream and cake. I closed off the night by finishing homework. Throughout all of this, I gave thanks for God getting me this far in life and that hopefully, there would be more birthdays to come.
That was Monday. Wednesday, I left with roommate to go to New York City for thanksgiving. Pretty much, my birthday celebration continued. I ate such good food like Jamaican food. I got to play video games with kids, who welcomed me with welcome arms. I got to see the tourist sites of New York like the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, and Times Square. What a way to spend my 18th birthday!
Now, I am back at Trinity doing all the hw that I couldn’t do during the break. Oh well!  It’s only three weeks before I go back to Idaho, where all I will do is eat, sleep, visit people and repeat.
